.ATE File Extension

Compressed accounting database backup created by Microsoft Office Accounting, an application that integrates with online banking systems; stores a backup copy of the .SBD accounting file.

ATE files are used to send exported company accounting data to an accountant, who modifies the account information and sends back an updated .ATI file.

NOTE: Microsoft discontinued development of Accounting Office in 2009.
