.PF File Extension

Password-protected file compressed and encrypted by Stuffit Deluxe; similar to a .SIT file, but requires a password to decrypt and decompress; often used for archiving confidential or personal data.

NOTE: Even with the appropriate software program, PF files will not open unless the correct password is entered.

File created by Prefetcher, a component of Windows Memory Manager that speeds up the boot process and application loading; contains a trace log of Prefetcher events; records what code and data are accessed during boot and application loading processes.

PF files are typically stored in the \Windows\Prefetch\ directory. The boot process trace file always has the name NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.PF.

NOTE: PF files are used by Windows XP or later.
