Contains packet data captured by monitoring and "packet sniffing" software; typically consists of data packets that have been sent over a network; can be analyzed using software that uses the libpcap or WinPcap libraries.
NOTE: Ethereal, a popular program for capturing and analyzing PCAP files, was renamed to Wireshark in May, 2006.
PCAP is also an abbreviation for "Packet Capture." |
