| File Description | File that uses the Extensible Forms Description Language (XFDL) standard to represent a structured, legally-binding business form; contains business form data including layout, digital signatures, inline expressions, and business transaction details; addresses business transaction needs for auditability, non-repudiation, preservation of context, and security. XFD files are the same as .XFDL files. They were designed to create standardized business forms and are used in government and business transactions. NOTE: The United States Airforce discontinued the use of IBM PureEdge Viewer. You should use the Lotus Forms Viewer instead. |

| File Description | File created in the FormFlow 99 format, which was developed by JetForm; contains page form element information, such as the names and values of text fields; used for storing form data that can be imported into a PDF document. XFD files are similar to .XFDF files, except XFDF files are more common and have a newer format that uses XML formatting. NOTE: FormFlow 99 XFD files should not be confused with Extensible Forms Description Language (XFDL) files, which also use the ".xfd" extension. |
