Overview

Corel Painter is a digital art studio that enables both novices and professionals to create realistic digital paintings. The software includes several different types of brushes, canvases, and drawing tools. It also integrates with several industry-standard pen displays and drawing tablets, allowing painters to draw freehand digital art. Painter is a crossplatform application enabling both Macintosh and Windows users to create and share digital art.

User Interface

The Painter interface includes a painting canvas and floating tool palettes. Users can save workspace layouts for different drawing needs. Color palettes allow users to mix custom colors using a color wheel and mixing surface. Users can paint the canvas using one of several brushes or other drawing tools.

Capabilities

Painter includes an array of digital art tools that enhance the creative process. These tools include airbrushes, chalk, crayons, oil brushes, sponges, watercolors, and others. Users can select a stroke type for each drawing tool, which allows different styles to be applied to the canvas. Artists can select different canvas types and can customize the painting surface using Hard Media controls. They can also experiment with color theory using mixing surfaces and color wheels.

Corel Painter integrates with state-of-the-art digital freehand drawing devices, including Wacom's Cintiq interactive pen displays and Intuos drawing tablets. These input devices provide a realistic and fluid painting experience when creating digital artwork.

Painter offers several progressive art capabilities for the modern digital artist. The kaleidoscope and mirror painting enhance the artists ability to create patterns and to paint with precision. Dynamic brush settings, digital airbrushes, and computed circular brush controls give additional creative control to the painter.

User Community

Painter is used in professional art studios, as well as by art students in educational training environments. It is also used by home users for creating digital artwork and for adding artistic effects to digital photos. There also exists a group called the Corel Painter Masters who promote Painter and teach the Painter community.
