Overview

WordPerfect Office is an office productivity suite developed by Corel. It is available in Standard, Professional, and Home & Student editions, and may be upgraded from previous versions at a discounted price. The office suite is considered a strong alternative to Microsoft Office since it offers support for Microsoft's Open XML file formats (e.g., .DOCX) and it includes both standard and advanced productivity features.

The standard version of WordPerfect Office contains several applications, including:

• WordPerfect - an advanced word processing application
• Presentations - a slideshow and presentation creation program
• Quattro Pro - a spreadsheet development application
• Nuance PaperPort - a document scanning and image management application
• WordPerfect Lightning - a "digital notebook" document collaboration program
• Mozilla Thunderbird for WordPerfect Office - an e-mail and scheduling program

WordPerfect Office also includes pre-built document templates, an English dictionary, the Presentations Graphics editor, sample clipart and digital photos, and other productivity tools, such as the XML Project Designer and the WordPerfect Address Book.

User Interface

Each application included with WordPerfect Office includes a workspace environment with a menu bar, customizable toolbars, and a primary document window. Since WordPerfect Office programs are designed to work together as an integrated suite, the applications all have a similar look and feel. This makes it easy for users to transition between programs.

Capabilities

WordPerfect Office can be used to create text documents, presentations, slide shows, spreadsheets, notes, and other office documents. Files can be saved in one of Corel’s proprietary file formats or may be exported to other industry-standard file formats. For example, WordPerfect Office provides full interoperability between Adobe’s Portable Document Format (.PDF), Microsoft’s Open XML file formats (.DOCX, .XLSX, and .PPTX), and the Open Document Format (.ODT files). WordPerfect Office also supports many legacy formats from older versions of Corel tools.

The WordPerfect Office suite includes an extensive set of bundled tools that allow users to create professional, customized documents. It also includes a built-in Reference Center, which integrates all help documentation and tutorials into a single interface. This provides an easy means for users to get help for each of the WordPerfect Office tools.

User Community

WordPerfect Office is primarily used in home and small business environments. It also offers collaboration tools for business users, such as support for Microsoft SharePoint Server and Web services.
