Software Overview

id Software Quake III Arena is third installment of the Quake series and differs substantially from the previous two installments. The game was first released on December 2nd, 1999 for Windows but is also available for OS X and Linux.

The previous two installments, Quake and Quake II, featured traditional single player gameplay. Quake III Arena bucks this trend and instead revolves around frenetic multiplayer action. The game does not have much of a storyline, the overall objective is to kill, or frag, enemies as you progress through different tiers that increase in difficulty. The game provides weapons, ammo, power-ups, and health in various places around the map for you to use.

Although Quake III Arena differs greatly from the previous two installments it is still a fan favorite among FPS gamers. It provides fun, frenetic gameplay and is opened to mods. At the time of its release and to this day still id Software Quake III Arena is considered one of the all-time FPS classics.
