Overview

OmniPage is a document scanning program used to convert printed documents into electronic files. It includes Nuance’s advanced OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, which recognizes text, formatting, and page layout information from scanned images. Scanned documents can be exported to several different file formats, including Microsoft Office, Corel WordPerfect, Adobe Acrobat, and Amazon Kindle formats. OmniPage can also be used for converting non-editable files, such as closed PDFs, into editable documents.

User Interface

The OmniPage interface is divided into multiple columns, which provide control over each step of the conversion process. Users select an input file, then click the "Perform OCR" button to process the document's content. Once the file has been processed, the user can fine-tune the text using the built-in text editor. The document can then be exported to one of several file types. OmniPage also includes a Quick Convert option for fast document conversion and installs an OmniPage toolbar for Microsoft Office programs.

Capabilities

Nuance’s proprietary OCR technology provides accurate recognition of scanned document text. For example, OmniPage can match text characters from over 120 languages with over 99% accuracy. The program matches character properties, such as the font, size, style (e.g. bold or italic), and the document background color. Users can also import digital photos taken of paper documents and accurately translate them into editable documents.
