Overview
Norton Internet Security is a software utility that protects computers from malware and Internet attacks. Similar to Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious threats. It extends the features of Norton AntiVirus software to include multi-layer protection for local computers, home networks, and Internet traffic. These additional features enable users to securely operate their personal home networks, block unwanted access to personal computers, safely store personal information, and analyze Internet traffic in real-time. Internet Security includes one year of protection for up to three home computers. User InterfaceThe Internet Security interface is designed to help users easily manage their computers' security. Several different sections allow usesrs to customize scanning options, examine performance metrics, and evaluate the security of Web browsing and local applications. CapabilitiesNorton Internet Security protects computers 24/7 with its SONAR and Threat Monitoring technologies. These and other technologies quickly identify threats and remove or quarantine them for remedial action. LiveUpdate also provides up-to-date virus definitions to eliminate the most recently discovered viruses. Norton offers the "System Insight" perspective, which gives detailed graphs of real-time computer statistics. Users can view active process and system resource statistics, such as CPU and memory usage. This interface allows users to analyze timelines of software installations, virus definitions updates, and system vulnerability levels. Additionally, application settings can be modified to improve the computer's performance. An important online security feature provided by the software is "Safe Web," which protects users while on the Internet. Safe Web flags search engine results in Web browsers with green, yellow, or red icons to help identify problem websites. It prevents users from accessing phishing websites by using intelligent filtering based on Symantec's online repository of known malicious sites. Safe Web also protects users from downloading malicious files and fills out online forms with personal information stored in Norton's encrypted system. This prevents keyloggers from gaining access to sensitive data. User CommunityThe Internet Security community includes a wide variety of PC users, but is primarily used in personal home network environments. Internet Security enables home users to extend the security of their local home computers to small household networks since the license supports up to three household computers. A growing community of participants are active in developing Norton’s online knowledge base, which helps Internet Security users identify problem websites and prevent harmful downloads.
