What is a BA1 file?
A BA1 file is a backup of a U.S. tax return created with TaxAct 2021. It contains a user's 2021 personal and income tax information, for use on tax form 1040. BA1 files are used to archive a user's tax return for future reference and to back up the user's return in case their .TA1 file goes missing or becomes corrupt.

TaxAct 2021 is a Windows program that U.S. residents can use to prepare and file Federal and State tax returns. While using TaxAct 2021, you can manually create a backup of your 2021 tax return by selecting File → Backup.... (You must first have saved the return as a .TA1 file.) This saves the return as a BA1 file.
The program also automatically creates three additional BA1 files and stores them in its AUTO-BACKUP folder. These files include a current backup, daily backup, and weekly backup. For example, the program's daily backup file is named .ta1_daily.ba1.
How to open a BA1 file
You can open BA1 files with TaxAct2021 (Windows). To do so, select File → Restore Backup.... Then, navigate to and open your BA1 file. You cannot open BA1 files in the online version of TaxAct.
