What is a JNP file?

Java file that contains instructions for the Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP); used for launching and managing Java programs or applets from a web browser; can run the associated program if the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is installed.

More Information

JNLP files contain information such as the remote address of the Java program (.JAR file) and the initial class to be run. They are saved in an .XML format and can be viewed or edited with a text editor.

NOTE: The ".jnp" file extension is a three-letter alternative to the more common .JNLP file extension.
