.PAT File Extension

A PAT file may also be a system file used by DiskStation Manager (DSM), the operating system used for Synology NAS devices. It contains files required to install or update the low-level operating system that runs the device.

PAT files are also used by Synology Assistant, a program used to install firmware onto DSM devices. During the DSM device setup process, Synology Assistant requests a PAT installation file for the device. You can use the PAT file located on your Synology installation CD or a PAT file downloaded from Synology Download Center.

You can use a PAT file downloaded from Synology Download Center to manually update DiskStation Manager. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Open the DiskStation Manager Control Panel.
2. Select Update & Restore → DSM Update → Manual DSM Update.
3. Select the Browse button. Then, navigate to and select your PAT file.
4. Select Apply to begin updating DiskStation Manager.

Bitmap image used as a pattern that can be imported into multiple graphics programs; typically a square file that may be 8x8 pixels to 256x256 pixels in size; repeats to fill an area with the pattern; often used for creating a textured background.

Vector pattern used by CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, a suite of programs that includes both raster and vector graphics editing applications; saves a pattern that can be repeated within a vector image or page layout document; often used for applying background textures.

Corel CONNECT, a graphics content browsing application included with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, provides a graphics content package that includes several vector patterns, which can be included in images or documents.

3D model file typically created by CAD programs; contains patches, which store the three-dimensional geometry as rectangular meshes; differs from other formats that use single vertices to store 3D shapes.

PAT files use a format similar to .3DA files.

A PAT file may also be a patch used by Gravis GF1-based sound cards for synthesizing musical sounds. It contains instrument patch data, including various voices and waveforms, which the sound card uses to generate audio. Each instrument in a PAT file may support up to 16 different waveforms, but the format does not accommodate multiple layers for instruments.

Musicians and audio developers used PAT files during the 1990s when Gravis UltraSound sound cards were popular for their advanced audio quality in PC gaming and music production. These files helped users create a wide range of sounds and instruments, enhancing the auditory experience of PC applications. However, the format is now largely deprecated as technology has progressed and other more versatile audio formats have emerged.

You can open PAT files associated with FMJ-Software Awave Studio. Gravis GIPC (Gravis to InterWave Patch Converter) also supports PAT files but it is no longer developed.

Ketron sound pattern format used to play different styles for the Ketron keyboards including the SD1, SD3, SD5, and Audya models; contains style sounds, levels, and effects; can be used for a wide variety of genres such as Rock, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Latin, Dance, and Gospel.

On SD models, the PAT files are located in the STYLE folder within the MASTER FOLDER, which is accessed when you push the MASTER FOLDER button on the keyboard. Depending on the keyboard version you are using you can load the PAT file via a floppy disk or USB drive. You can create a PAT file with the "Pattern Edit" function on SD models. On Aduya models, the PAT file is commonly accompanied by a .BIN file which contains the parameters for the style contained in the PAT file.

Cheat codes file used by Kega Fusion, an emulator for the Sega MegaDrive (a.k.a. Sega Genesis) console system; saved in a plain text format and contains cheat codes for Sega games; can be referred to as a "patch" file.
