What is a QB2017 file?

A QB2017 file is a data file created by the 2017 version of QuickBooks for Mac, a financial management application. It contains financial data for a company, which includes employee profiles, payroll information, and customer data. QB2015 files can be used to generate tax forms, invoices, financial reports, and more.

More Information

QB2017 files are used by QuickBooks for Mac to store company data, whereas the Windows version of QuickBooks uses the .QBW file to store company data. If you create a backup of your data in QuickBooks for Mac, the program will generate a .DMG file to store the backup. The Windows version of QuickBooks generates a .QBB file to store backup data.

If your computer crashes or files become corrupt you can restore your QB2017 company file with the DMG backup file. To restore your QB2017 company file from a backup:

  1. Go to your backed-up disk image and double-click the icon in order to mount it.
  2. Drag the QB2017 file wherever you want it located. Put the Attached Documents Library folder in the same location as the QB2017 file as well.
  3. Open your company file, select QuickBooks → Preferences and choose Attachments.

NOTE: Previous versions of QuickBooks for Mac use the extensions .QB2016, .QB2015, .QB2014, etc. These files are referred to as legacy files in the QuickBooks 2017 release.
