.USERTILE-MS File Extension

File used by the Windows 8 operating system; saves the user tile, which is the image that appears on the Windows 8 Start screen in the upper right-hand corner; often contains a picture of the person taken with the computer's webcam.

In Windows 8, you can modify your user tile by clicking on your username in the upper-right hand corner of the Start screen and then choosing "Change user tile" from the drop down menu. From the Personalize window that appears, you can either choose an image file by clicking the Browse button, or you can take a picture with your webcam by selecting the Webcam button.

USERTILE-MS files are saved to the C:\Users\[user]\User Tiles\ directory. They are saved in a proprietary format and cannot be viewed with a standard image viewer.
