Bookmarks file created in the XML Bookmark Exchange Language (XBEL) format; contains Web bookmarks, including their titles, URLs, and descriptions; can also store the bookmark folder hierarchy; used by some Web browsers for storing bookmarks, but is not used by the most popular browsers.
The XBEL format was designed for the interchange of bookmarks on the Web but has also been adapted for storing application bookmarks.
