A YDR file may also be a 3D model used in Grand Theft Auto V, an open-world action-adventure game published by Rockstar Games. It contains an object, such as a building, prop, or weapon, that appears in the game. YDR files are compressed with Zlib compression, and they can be decompressed to access the de-textured 3D model (.odr file) and textures stored within them.

More Information

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always inspired tech-savvy players to put their own, unique stamp on their favorite games. With the release of Grand Theft Auto V, GTA modders immediately set about figuring out how to modify and create their own YDR files, so they could add new buildings and props to the game. Most players extract YDR files from Grand Theft Auto V using OpenIV, a popular Grand Theft Auto mod utility.

How to open a YDR file

After extracting a YDR file from Grand Theft Auto V, GTA V modders can open the file in AutoDesk 3DS Max using the player-created GIMS Evo plug-in. They can then modify the file as they see fit before exporting it and loading it into GTA V using OpenIV. For more complete instructions, refer to this YouTube video.
